to be vulnerable

Life, love, vulnerability.

To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.

  1. Alex,
I am reading this the morning after someone suggested it to me in regards to something other than Love in hopes that I let a caregiver into my life in a personal way. one other friendly blogger mentioned this a few weeks ago and I wanted to tell her to gain respect for the creation that has become her character, perhaps she is also wise to seek such change. I love your feet and smiles understanding my complex composition is simply not that complex at all. in fact I grow at a rate unique to my understandings and ability to accept changes and the gifts in my life. To that I say hello and thank you.

    • Thank YOU, as always, for your most thoughtful comments.

“The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and pertubations of love is Hell.”

penny for your thoughts?
